About Wellbutrin
Wellbutrin XL (bupropion hydrochloride extended-release tablets) is an aminoketone antidepressant and smoking cessation aid formulated as a once-daily, hydrophilic matrix tablet. Each white, round, biconvex tablet is imprinted with “Wellbutrin XL 300” and contains 300 mg of bupropion HCl. The XL formulation provides a 24-hour gradual release, achieving steady-state plasma levels after about 7 days. It primarily inhibits the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine with minimal effect on serotonin. Wellbutrin XL is FDA-approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) and seasonal affective disorder (SAD) in adults. It is also used off-label for ADHD and as part of smoking cessation therapy (as Zyban). The usual dose is 300 mg once daily in the morning, taken with or without food. Tablets must be swallowed whole: do not crush, divide, or chew.
